Bahtera is closed as far as I know but the path that leads from Redang Kalong to Laguna's jetty and onward to Pasir Panjang beach is still there. Last I remembered, it was a simple trek without too many obstacles and hindrances. I would expect that there might be more vegetation growing around the trail since Bahtera's closure as there would not be anyone to maintain the grounds. If you've got good powerful torchlights, you shouldn't get lost or have too many problems though I'd suggest visiting Pasir Panjang while it's still daylight, especially if you get creeped out by the dark (and if you have an overactive imagination!). Being a wildlife enthusiast, I find night walks present opportunities for encounters with nocturnal creatures, by that I mean animals and insects (e.g. civet cats, flying foxes, snakes or large geckos) and not the paranormal kind - not that I doubt the latter exists but I'm a skeptic and hold the view that 90% of encounters with the latter can always be explained by natural/psychological causes. Anyway, there's another thread somewhere in this forum for those stories :D

By the way, saw in one of the posts that Bahtera has closed? so fast? so if that's the case, is it still easy to get from Kalong over to Pasir Panjang Beach? The last time, one of the staff at Kalong brought my friend and I over quite late at night, and the darkness was super creepy. there was also some construction going on, so some parts were quite rocky. How is it now? I can't imagine passing by Bahtera at night, if it's closed and abandoned????

Agree with Tango, I like that quote :P Thanks very much, Alex, appreciate the update...well, if i'm going alone, will go to Kalong so I can slack for a few days. If my friend is going with me, we might head over to one of the resorts at Pasir Panjang Beach instead

Guess a quiet thread can also mean no complaints! :D

Of all the beaches in Redang, I think those in Kalong have seen the least change since there have been few developments, so hopefully you'll find it still as charming and rustic as your last trip. I usually try to make it a point to just walk over to Kalong beach when I'm in Redang and have not noticed many changes. With school hols in Malaysia & Singapore already over by first week July, I wouldn't expect it to be as crowded as this month. Enjoy yourself at Redang, only place where slacking is not just permitted but encouraged (for guests anyway, not for resort staff) 8)

Redang Kalong in July

Postby piyopiyo » Fri Jun 11, 2010 4:40 pm

Hi, sorry if this is the wrong place to post.

Wondering if anyone knows how the crowd and weather will be like at Kalong during the first week of July? I'll be in between jobs then, and am thinking of going for a short slacker holiday. My first and only trip to Redang was to Kalong in 2005, and I miss the place like crazy. :P Is it still as rustic as it was 5 years ago?

Seems like it's not very popular? the thread seems a bit quiet leh...
