Thanks shian,

Really nice of you to provide the details of your trip. I love RBR souvenir shop and their Kopitiam with Ramlee burgers and of course Summer place for zhi-char and live music. Glad you enjoyed the stay at Redang Beach Resort.

9-hr coach ride including customs clearance? You're lucky... for some of us, it is like 10 or even 11 hours.

Like Alex Kang mentioned, best coach ride is super-VIP coach with 170 degree recyling seat and personal entertainment system. Flying is another option to consider, either by Firefly or Berjaya Air or even MAS (go for promotions).

Thanks again for a detail report of your Redang trip... glad to hear that you had good experience at Redang's Marine Park :)

hi shian,
Thanks for sharing your experience and glad to know you enjoyed yourself at RBR. The smaller budget resorts always have that kind of more personal, cozy and friendly atmosphere.

FYI, the 45-minute boat ride you expected is actually from Merang jetty to Redang, not from Shahbandar jetty in KT. It sounds like you took the public ferry from Shahbandar to the Kampung jetty in Redang and then transferred to Redang Beach's own boat which brought you to their resort at Pasir Panjang. The travel time from Shahbandar jetty to Redang is about 80-90 minutes, so add in the transfer to the resort and you get the 2h you experienced. Merang is much closer to Redang but is about 40 min away from KT by road.

Not sure which coach you were on, but those with the Super Snoozer seats are actually quite comfortable as they recline quite flat. If you're the sort that has no problem sleeping on coaches, then the overnight coach is still the best option from Singapore since current flight schedules from Firefly (Sgp to KT) still require one to spend the night in KT before heading over to Redang. Coming back, Firefly's timing from KT to Sgp is much more suitable as it leaves KT in the early afternoon.

28mar to 30mar

Postby shian » Fri Apr 02, 2010 9:25 pm

Hi all, here to share my experience in pulau redang with redang beach resort. :)

my trip start off with an overnight coach ride from spore on 28mar.it's a freaking 9hr plus coach ride inclusive of custom clearance etc, was pretty happy i survived but with head n backaches

29mar arrived at shahbandar jetty at 7plus so went for breakfast at a wetmarket nearby.communication barrier with the locals over there as most can't understand eng. Board the ferry at 9,changed to a smaller ferry after and hour.was supposed to be just a 45min ride but somehow end up to be around 2hours.
Finally reach redang and welcome by the rbr people, a short walk before reaching the resort lobby. And short briefing before we checked in. Thought we can only check in after 2pm as seen in many forum but end up checking in at 11plus am,which was great! The rooms as many said is a chalet style. To me it's like a small bungalow with 8 rooms, 4 in the first level and 4 in the 2nd level. Was glad to be given the one in the 2nd level. Twin sharing, but the room has got a queen size bed with a single bed.happy with the clean and tidy room, just a perfect place to sleep. :) toilet looks old but not as dirty as many others claim.it's pretty clean and at least usable :) the waredrobe was very small though but we didnt used it.some hangers were provided to hang our clothes and there is some kind of a wooden landry stand in the room as well.we put that in the small balcony to dry our clothes after snorkelling and guess what.our clothes are really dry the next day!
Lunch at 1pm, wasn't good, the food all tAsted overcooked.but the soup was great maybe because I vomitted twice on the way to the island.
Snorkelling time!many said there is a siren to signal the snorkelling time but all I heard was a cute funny rythem and sweet voices telling us it's snorkelling time :) had a great laugh over the annoucement
The snorkelling instructors are really funny n bring us lots of laughter, the snorkelling session was really great especially for my frenz whom were brought around by the instructor called khye, the dj of the night as well.he was really good!
After snorkelling was teabreak, just pandan cake n barley,to me i was ok,Anyway dinner is 2hours later. Enough time to rest before dinner, dinner was much better!had alot more food like spaghetti and salad blah blah blah.after dinner my frens n I borrowed some games from the front counter before going for the disco night! IT WAS SO FUN! Dancing on the beach and we even went into the sea (till below knee level) to dance!much better then sqeezing with people in sentosa during countdown!the dj was great too!know how to heat up the atmosphere but of course, the people matters as well :) thank goodness the batch of people during my stay are hyper enough :) laze abit onthe beach before retiring back to the room for a goodnight rest.

30mAr was relactent to wake up for breakfast so only wake up for snorkelling,my frens saw a whole bunch of nemo family! We were at marin park, was a really nice place to snorkel with so many fishes around you!
After the snorkelling we had our lunch, the person told us we can start to have our lunch even though it's only 12.30pm.lunch was really good!much better than the past two meals!my bf rate it 8/10 definitely not because we're hungry as the both of us are pretty picky over food.
After lunch we rested abit before taking a stroll down to other resorts along the beach. The beach in from of redang bay resort seems much nicer! I dunno why but that's what I feel.however the resort condition, hmm think rbr is more modern ba.
Last snorkelling of the trip, end up with serious sunburn!result of not putting sunblock lotion, dinner was BBQ,we didn't have much as we head to the bar, summer point, for crabs and beers.there was a live band.we learnt that the singers will change everynow and then.the person in charge was actually one of the snorkelling instructor, xindong.he can sing pretty well too! :) we had drink and a chat with khye before retiring back to our rooms at 10plus.

31mar we had to wake up early to rush for the first ferry back to mainland in order to catch our bus.had breakfast at 5.30am,was surprised that the resort really bother to prepare breakfast for us so damn early in the morning!thumbs up!

Overall experience with rbr was great!mainly because we are at redang for snorkelling and beach life.those who go honeymoon I may suggest laguna as rbr's room is only for sleeping not so much for any other activity. Rbr is really budget and the service really win u over!my next visit to redang will definitely be with rbr again!

From those going from Singapore I suggest going by plane if not the coach ride can kill!unless u are going with one big group of friends

Rbr not to miss
- snorkelling and mingle with the instructors
- disco night!

Must bring
- sunblock lotion!!!!
- aero Vera gel
- own toiletries
